There is something to be said about a band that manages to craft songs that make you want to drop what you’re doing and just listen; songs that leave you holding your breath and hooked on every syllable sung and every plucked guitar note. Local Los Angeles duo Twin Oaks do just that. Comprised of vocalist Lauren Brown and instrumentalist Aaron Domingo, this indie project has the haunting and introspective feel of artists like The XX or Warpaint, yet at the same time have managed to create a unique beauty all their own. Their sound is minimalist and at the same time rich and deep with emotion. Brown’s voice is light and unassuming, yet commands your utmost attention as she sings lyrics that are deceptively simplistic, melancholic and filled with beautiful imagery. The pure artistry on their latest EP Collapse is undeniable, and their newest single “Dust” is no different. If you appreciate music that you can listen to in your quiet and thoughtful moments, Twin Oaks is the band for you.
