2021-2022: Nishwakie

Nishwakie has been captivated with music when he first learned to dance. After leaving his home island of Saint Lucia, he discovered a whole new world in the states, which piqued his interest in the opportunities he has yet to obtain. It has been a blessing for him to be able to pursue his passion. With each song he sings, his goal is to create a lasting and positive impact.

2020-2021: alex ricci

23 year old, ALEX RICCI, was born into a musical family and began singing at age 3; inspired by Shakira and Ricky Martin, Alex Ricci and his father Alberto La Torre (of 80’s ballad group, “Los Pasteles Verdes”), began producing Mexican mariachi music. Later, he began singing American Pop Music, learning styles of Michael Jackson,

Ne-Yo, and Chris Brown, which Alex merged into Reggaeton (Pop Urbano/Latino). This young, dynamic reggaeton artist has been seen on shows such as, “Telemundo,” “Don Francisco’s Sábado Gigante,” and “Univisión’s La Banda,” and venues such as Ford Amphitheater, LA Sports Arena, and Staples Center.

2019-2020: Madus

Immediately striking a chord with their self-recorded single “Find Another Girl”, (the song has accrued over 70,000 streams and has been translated into Spanish by fans in Columbia, Mexico, and Brazil), the boys of Madus have continued a regimen of writing and recording a new single with an accompanying B-side every other month. With Dugan Cruz as guitarist/vocalist, Pat Rector as guitarist/vocalist, Jaime Cano as bassist/vocalist, and Sam Sobo as drummer, Madus is VOVE’s Artist of the Year for 2019-20.

2018-2019: Tokyo Gold

Tokyo Gold, a jazz/R&B band from LA, consist of Neferti, Tyler Johnson, Walter Jones, Juan Rodriguez, and Jon Aparicio. They started out in 2016 and within the few years of being together, Tokyo Gold has built a unique sound and style that has quickly gained a fanbase. Tokyo Gold was VOVE’s Artist of the Year in 2018-19.

2016-2017: Smoky knights

Being known as an indie rock quartet from Los Angeles, Smoky Knights’ unique sound has a mix between California surf rock, 50's dinner club fluff, and 70's drug binge fuzz. The band was formed in 2012 by Andy Fischer-Price, Seth Sylvester, and Adam Brooks, adding Jesse Cross in 2014. Smoky Knights was VOVE’s Artist of the Year in 2016-17.

2015-2016: Skin & Bones

Taylor Borsuk and Peter Blackwelder, a duo from California, started out as street performers along the Venice Beach boardwalk. They quickly built a fan based by playing wherever they could find an audience; from dive bars to house parties, even on the sidewalk outside of big touring shows that came through town. Skin & Bones developed their sound through these experiences. The band was VOVE’s Artist of the Year in 2015-16.
