CSUN RECORD LABEL RELEASES FIRST SINGLE, “TAKE IT”
WITH ARTISTS ANDRE JAMES AND BELLA LAYBA
VOVE has worked incredibly hard all year long to scout artists and record their first-ever compilation album. VOVE’s first single “Take It” featuring Andre James and Bella Layba was just released on March 31st. Andre James is a hip-hop artist who focuses on creating transparency with his music. He wants his audience to be able to relate to and understand his music on a deeper level. Bella Layba has been singing for as long as she can remember. She says working with VOVE has offered her collaboration skills she couldn't use while recording in a home studio. “Take It” is a psychedelic indie track that boasts exquisite production, relatable lyrics, and two extremely talented artists.
VOVE plans to release its second single of the season on April 28th. Both of these singles lead up to the release of a full compilation album of VOVE artists, complete with a release party on May 11th at The Hotel Cafe.
Andre James first found his true love of music when his parents gave him and his brother their first analog alarm clock, which happened also to be a radio. They would play all the radio stations with the music they liked and would sit in front of that radio for hours. He quotes his songwriting process as being a bit scary because of the transparency he tries to put into his music, calling it a double-edged sword at times. He loves the music he makes, but it's also a therapy release. Andre James strives to create relatable, transparent, and growing music. He will be releasing his first full-length original project since 2016 this year!
Bella Layba was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. She has pursued many passions in life but music has always been the one to come back to. Above being a performer she enjoys being on the back end of the songwriting process, using her signature sound to bring a lush and lively energy to the artists she writes with. More recently, she has expanded her horizons to include recording and live performances. Working with VOVE has been a great way for her to continue to expand her interests in music and is grateful for the experience.

“While copyright, publishing, licensing and recording contracts are among the industry topics explored in the classroom, the Music Industry Studies program at CSUN prides itself on experiential learning and entrepreneurship. Students receive experience through Vove, a student-run record label for which they select, record, promote and manage an “artist of the year,” including arranging live performances and assisting with copyright and performing rights registration.”
