CSUN’s Five of Five Entertainment Selects Artist of the Year; Gears Up for “The Drop”; By Nigel Hamblin

It’s quite possible that CSUN’s student-run record label Five of Five Entertainment, also known as VOVE, is one of the university’s best kept secrets; offering college musicians a great opportunity in being provided professional grade production, media promotion, and a live event through their teams of dedicated student professionals - for no cost at all. 

To do this, Five of Five has a tradition of selecting an Artist of the Year to help further along their music careers. A significant factor in this opportunity is letting the artist keep all the rights to the work they complete with the label.

 This year's artist is none other than the band Madus; a local rock group that has already been making waves of their own.

However, gathering artist submissions and selecting one is no easy feat. Rafael Gomez, the head of Artist and Repertoire, details his experience with this endeavor: “My role was to produce and execute a talent search campaign that garners qualified artist applicants based in the Los Angeles area and surrounding counties. Also, to create management procedures for logging, reviewing, and managing talent search artist submissions.”

 Artist of the Year submissions came in at high volumes and required many hours to organize and present. 

“My team and I successfully delivered 30+ submissions for ‘Artist of the Year 2019 – 2020’, from artists and bands ranging from the Los Angeles area to Bakersfield,'' Gomez continues. 

After all the hard work he and his team have accomplished, Rafael remains eager to see what’s on the horizon: “What I’m most looking forward to is the ending result that will be unveiled by the end of the Spring semester.”
